THE RESURECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

A LITERAL BODILY RESURECTION, OR A GLORIFIED SPIRIT

MATTHEW 16:21

NKJV
From that time Jesus began to show to His
disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many
things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be
killed, and be raised again the third day.

NWT
From that time forward Jesus Christ
commenced showing his disciles that he must go to Jerusalem
and suffer many things from the older men and chief priests
and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised
up.

MATTHEW 20:18-19

NKJV
"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and
the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to
the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, "and
deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to
crucify. And the third day He will rise again."

NWT
"Look! We are going up to Jerusalem, and the
Son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests and
scribes, and they will condemmn him to death, and will
deliver him up to [men of] the nations to make fun of and to
scourge and to impale, and the third day he will be raised
up."

MARK 8:31

NKJV
And He began to teach them that the Son of
Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders
and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after
three days rise again.

NWT
Also, he started teaching them that the Son
of man must undergo many sufferings and be rejected by the
older men and the chief priests and the scribes and be
killed, and rise three days later.

MARK 9:9

NKJV
Now as they came down from the mountain, He
commanded them that they should tell no one the things they
had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

NWT
As they were coming down out of the
mountain, he expressly ordered them not to relate to anybody
what they saw, until after the Son of man had risen from the
dead.

MARK 9:31

NKJV
For He taught His disciples and said to
them, "The Son of Man is being delivered into the hands of
men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will
rise the third day."

NWT
For he was teaching his disciples and
telling them: "The Son of man is to be delivered into men's
hands, and they will kill him, but, despite being killed, he
will rise three days later."

MARK 10:33-34

NKJV
"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and
the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and to
the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death and deliver
Him to the Gentiles; "and they will mock Him, and scourge
Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He
will rise again."

NWT
"Here we are, advancing up to Jerusalem, and
the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and
the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and will
deliver him to men of the nations, and they will make fun of
him and will spit upon him and scourge him and kill him, but
three days later he will rise."

LUKE 9:22

NKJV
saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many
things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day."

NWT
but said: "The Son of man must undergo many
sufferings and be rejected by the older men and chief
priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be
raised up."

LUKE 18:33

NKJV
"And they will scourge Him and put Him to
death. And the third day He will rise again."

NWT
and after scourging him they will kill him,
but on the third day he will rise."

JOHN 2:19-22

NKJV
Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy
this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Then the
Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this
temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" But He was
speaking of the temple of His body. Therefore, when He had
risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had
said this to them; and they beleived the Scripture and the
word which Jesus had said.

NWT
In answer Jesus said to them: "Break down
this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Therefore the Jews said: "This temple was built in forty-six
years, and will you raise it up in three days?" But he was
talking about the temple of his body. When, though, he was
raised up from the dead, his disciples called to mind that
he used to say this; and they believed the Scripture and the
saying that Jesus said.

JOHN 11:1

NKJV
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of
Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

NWT
Now there was a certain man sick, Lazarus of
Bethany, of the village of Mary and of Martha her sister.

JOHN 11:4

NKJV
When Jesus heard that, He said, "This
sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that
the Son of God may be glorified through it."

NWT
But when Jesus heard it he said: "This
sickness is not with death as its object, but is for the
glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified
through it."

JOHN 11:14

NKJV
Then Jesus said to them plainly, "Lazarus is
dead.

NWT
At that time, therefore, Jesus said to them
outspokenly: "Lazarus has died,

JOHN 11:39

NKJV
Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha,
the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, "Lord, by this
time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days."

NWT
Jesus said: "Take the stone away." Martha,
the sister of the deceased, said to him: "Lord, by now he
must smell, for he has been dead four days."

JOHN 11:44

NKJV
And he who had died came out bound hand and
foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a
cloth. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go."

NWT
The [man] that had been dead came out with
his feet and hands bound with wrappings, and his countenance
was bound about with a cloth. Jesus said to them: "Loose him
and let him go."

LUKE 24:36-43

NKJV
Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself
stood in the midst of them, and said to them, "Peace to
you." But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed
they had seen a spirit. And He said to them, "Why are you
troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? "Behold My
hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see,
for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I
have." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and
His feet. But while they still did not believe for joy, and
marveled, He said to them, "Have you any food here?" So they
gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. And
He took it and ate in their presence.

NWT
While they were speaking of these things he
himself stood in their midst and said to them: "May you have
peace." But because they were terrified, and had become
frightened, they were imagining they beheld a spirit. So he
said to them: "Why are you troubled, and why is it doubts
come up in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is
I myself; feel me and see, because a spirit does not have
flesh and bones just as you behold that I have." And as he
said this he showed them his hands and his feet. But while
they were still not believing for sheer joy and were
wondering, he said to them: "Do you have something there to
eat?" And they handed him a piece of broiled fish; and he
took it and ate it before their eyes.

LUKE 24:46

NKJV
Then He said to them, "Thus it is written,
and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to
rise from the dead the third day,

NWT
and he said to them: "In this way it is
written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead
on the third day,

JOHN 20:19-20

NKJV
Then, the same day at evening, being the
first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the
disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came
and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with
you." Now when He said this, He showed them His hands and
His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the
Lord.

NWT
Therefore, when it was late on that day, the
first of the week, and, although the doors were locked where
the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and
stood in their midst and said to them: "May you have peace."
And after he said this he showed them both his hands and his
side. Then the disciples rejoiced at seeing the Lord.

JOHN 20:24-29

NKJV
But Thomas, called Didymus, one of the
twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other
disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord."
But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of
the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not
believe." And after eight days His disciples were again
inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being
shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!" Then
He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My
hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do
not be unbelieving, but believing." And Thomas answered and
said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him,
"Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed.
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

NWT
But Thomas, one of the twelve, who was
called The Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.
Consequently the other disciples would say to him: "We have
seen the Lord!" But he said to them: "Unless I see in his
hands the print of the nails and stick my finger into the
print of the nails and stick my hand into his side, I will
certainly not believe." Well, eight days later his disciples
were again indoors, and Thomas with them. Jesus came,
although the doors were locked, and he stood in their midst
and said: "May you have peace." Next he said to Thomas: "Put
your finger here, and see my hands, and take your hand and
stick it into my side, and stop being unbelieving but become
believing." In answer Thomas said to him: "My Lord and my
God!" Jesus said to him: "Because you have seen me have you
believed? Happy are those who do not see and yet believe."

WHO RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD

ACTS 2:24

NKJV
"whom God raised up, having loosed the pains
of death, because it was not possible that he should be held
by it.

NWT
But God resurrected him by loosing the pangs
of death, because it was not possible for him to continue to
be held fast by it.

JOHN 10:17-18

NKJV
"Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay
down My life that I may take it again. "No one takes it from
Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it
down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have
received from My Father."

NWT
This is why the Father loves me, because I
surrender my soul, in order that I may receive it again. No
man has taken it away from me, but I surrender it of my own
initiative. I have authority to surrender it, and I have
authority to receive it again. The commandment on this I
received from my Father."

ROMANS 8:11

NKJV
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus
from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the
dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His
Spirit who dwells in you.

NWT
If, now, the spirit of him that raised up
Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up Christ
Jesus from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive
through his spirit that resides in you.

JOHN 2:19

NKJV
Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy
this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

NWT
In answer Jesus said to them: "Break down
this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

ISAIAH 9:6

NKJV
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son
is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And
His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

NWT
For there has been a child born to us, there
has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come
to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of
Peace.
