REPENTANCE

REPENTANCE. IS IT A NECESSARY PART OF THE GOSPEL MESSAGE?

hand."

MATTHEW 9:12-13 NKJV
12 But when Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a
physician, but those who are sick.
13 "But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to
call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

the gospel."

When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but

repentance."

LUKE 10:13-15 NKJV
13 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in
you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented a great while ago, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.
14 "But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement than for you.
15 "And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be thrust down to Hades.

LUKE 11:32 NKJV

they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.

LUKE 13:1-5 NKJV
1 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate
had mingled with their sacrifices.

sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things?
3 "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
4 "Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they
were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

LUKE 15:7,10 NKJV
7 "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than
over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
10 "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who
repents."

LUKE 24:46-47 NKJV
46 Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer
and to rise from the dead the third day,
47 "and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem.

ACTS 2:37-38 NKJV
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the
apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

ACTS 3:18-19 NKJV
18 "But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would
suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
19 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of
refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

ACTS 5:30-31 NKJV
30 "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.
31 "Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel
and forgiveness of sins.

ACTS 8:20-22 NKJV
20 But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of
God could be purchased with money!
21 "You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of
God.
22 "Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart
may be forgiven you.

ACTS 13:24 NKJV
"after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people
of Israel.

ACTS 17:30-31 NKJV
30 "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to

31 "because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the
Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."

ACTS 19:4 NKJV

ACTS 20:20-21 NKJV

Jesus Christ.

the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

2 CORINTHIANS 7:9-10 NKJV
9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you
were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.
10 For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the
world produces death.

2 TIMOTHY 2:25 NKJV
in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance,
so that they may know the truth,

HEBREWS 6:4-6 NKJV
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift,
and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves
the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

HEBREWS 12:14-17 NKJV
14 Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
15 looking diligently lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness
springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
16 lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his
birthright.
17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he
found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.

2 PETER 3:9 NKJV
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering

21 and they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their
thefts.

REVELATION 16:9-11 NKJV
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has
power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.

full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain.
11 And they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not
repent of their deeds.
